This building built in 1927 was designed by Yoshiya Tanoue who studied under Frank Lloyd Wright, a master of modern American architecture. Tanoue moved his base to Hokkaido after the Great Kanto Earthquake and played a major role in creating the architectural style unique to Hokkaido.
