It was built in 1898 as the residence of Rintaro Izumi, who was a retainer of the Ishikawa family of the former Sendai Clan, the feudal lord of Kakuda. Izumi led a group of immigrants and developed Kuriyama Town. The building retains the architectural style of his hometown well.
