“Grass or other materials were usually spread on the cise floor and was covered with a reed screen and then with a straw mat or other coverings. Sometimes bedding was provided by placing a platform slightly raised from the floor near the wall.
Heaths were used in various ways. For example, there is a method of filling a hole in the ground with tree leaves, gravel and then volcanic ash. Interior walls were finished by putting up straw mats, and reed screens or straw mats were hung over the windows and entrances.”
