In Mikasa Geopark, visitors can meet the traces of lives of 100 million years ago including world-famous ammonites, precious coal mine remains and their unique cultures. In the Horonai area, one of six areas in this geopark (Katsurazawa, outdoor museum, Ikushumbetsu, Pombetsu, Mikasa, Horonai and Tappuyama), visitors can enjoy riding a Torokko tram to see the remains of Horonai Railway that was once used to carry coal.
